GOODBYE PLASTIC ! Looking for alternative solutions to single use plastics !
At the end of 2017, my family and I participate in the Zero Waste Family Challenge organized by Zero Waste Réunion, I get aware of the weight of our household waste. Then as picking up plastic wastes with my son on the beaches of Saint-Pierre following the storm Berguitta of January 2018 ; the shock is terrible, single use plastics are everywhere … in April I created GOODBYE PLASTIC ! with the objective to contribute to the reduction of waste in Réunion and elsewhere with products imagined in Reunion and manufactured high environnemental and social standards .
Much more than simple pieces of bamboo!
I chose to work with Sonny and his team in Thailand to manufacture straws and other products from bamboo such as toothbrushes. In one year, Sonny has built a know-how and federate a team of artisans to work on Thai wild bamboo.
Why wild bamboo?
Wild bamboo guarantees the least ecological impact of the raw material, it is not grown at the expense of ecosystems or food crops, and no product is used for its growth, it grows naturally up to 1 meter by day during the monsoon. Some bamboo stems even come from national parks where Sonny’s teams are encouraged by the authorities to limit the hold of bamboo on other plants and trees.
100% natural 100% human
All the work of transforming bamboo into straw is done by hand and without any chemicals. The drying of bamboo is done naturally in the sun, simply. We build trust and long-term relationships with all manufacturing teams, from harvesting bamboo into forests, cutting, drying, polishing, etching and packaging. This is to ensure a high quality human and societal impact without which an ecological product does not make sense.
